If you have big goals about building a successful fitness business online, then this may well be the most important blog you will ever read.
If you’re like most coaches you’re going to be confused, frustrated, and overwhelmed.
You are likely frustrated because you’re probably trying so many different things to try and grow your fitness business online.
You likely have seen various gurus putting out a whole host of different strategies.
One guru says one thing, and another completely contradicts them.
You may not know exactly who you should trust.
You likely have tried all the typical strategies told my business gurus on how best to grow your business like…post on social media multiple times per day, podcasts, videos, chase clients for referrals etc.
And if these strategies have left you scratching your head wondering if this online thing is worth doing…
Then, you are not alone.
However, if you keep reading, I will be sharing exactly what you need to focus on to grow your online fitness business and get clients chasing you, rather than you chasing them.
In fact, within this blog post, I will be discussing the below 3 steps in great detail.
I will be sharing the exact strategies to sign up high paying clients…even if you don’t have a big social media following or if you are new to the online game.
I will be discussing Facebook ads and sharing the real secrets of whether you actually need them to grow a wildly profitable fitness business.
How do you create systems so that you can achieve your dream lifestyle and create the freedom you deserve. It’s not much fun if you are just working all the time. I will share how you can earn more, while working less. It’s about creating effective “systems”.
Okay, let’s jump straight into this with section 1.
Number 1- Attract leads and clients.
By far the most common question that we get at the Coaches Cartel is how do you coach clients online.
If you are currently training clients one to one…
That’s what we call the old personal trainer model. We’re talking about how do you transfer into the new personal training model, which is a business that will allow you to earn more and have a lot more freedom and help you live the lifestyle you want.
This means working with clients online, instead of face to face.
Now, something I need to clear up first is that this is not “get rich quick” or a business that runs completely on autopilot.
That’s just not reality.
However, if you stick with me, I can share with you secrets to building a thriving online fitness business where you can work anywhere in the world and work LESS than you would do with an in-person personal training business.
I’m currently living in Bali and we have students living all around the world.
When it comes to transitioning from face to face training predominantly to moving into online training, it is all about defining your “income number”.
So, what is your goal income number?
Whether it’s per month, per quarter or per year…
What is that number that you need to hit in order to create the freedom that you want?
You also want to think about how many people you want to impact.
This is the first step…
Let me tell you that this is so important because this is the biggest problem with fitness coaches today.
They simply do not know what their income goal is.
I’ve worked with 100’s of fitness professionals over the years and this is one of the key differences between coaches that thrive online and the ones that don’t.
Once you have this income number in place, it is then very simple, we can just work backwards.
So, we have that number to shoot for, we can then structure your business off that number.
This is so important because the actual structure looks completely different for a business that does $100,000 per year, or $500,000 per year or even $1,000,000 per year.
The structure of each business is completely different and this is one of the reasons we need that goal number to begin with.
Once we have the income number, we can then figure out how many clients we need to reach that figure, or do we also need a membership site or other products and services needed to reach the income target.
The next thing to figure out is who is your ideal customer.
You can’t be everything to everybody.
Especially these days because the fitness industry has become so saturated.
You need to decide exactly who your target audience is.
One extra tip is to create a very detailed description of your ideal customer.
Once you have this, you want to make sure that every single piece of marketing you put out is targeted towards this specific individual.
Finally, you need people to know like and trust you before you try to sell them something.
So, when it comes to your sales time whether it’s on your sales page or also call with you…
They already know, like, and trust you and they see you as the authority who can solve their problems.
They already know what you’re all about, they’re basically sitting there, asking to give you money.
It makes the whole process much simpler and means you don’t need to resort to sleazy sales tactics or anything like that.
We want people to be actively interested in working with you and be the type of client that you want to work with.
By the way, you should turn people away if they’re not your ideal client.
Are they the right fit to join you?
Because if you are bringing the right type of people on board everything that you do is going to be so much better in terms of speed of delivering your service and also it makes marketing and sales a lot easier, too.
And you’re going to be able to refine that message to make sure that you’re bringing in the right people.
Next, we need to answer this next question…
So how are you going to get your message out there?
What medium are you going to use?
If you are using Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or all of the above. It doesn’t really matter but you have to decide how you’re going to be seen, and in what way.
It’s like crafting your brand message and being that it’s the first point of contact, it is extremely important.
You’ve got to figure out which one do you start with you don’t start with all of them, because otherwise, you will spread your time to thin.
The other thing to consider is what do you actually enjoy doing.
Whatever method you use, you need structured systems and frameworks because if you are just aimlessly posting…it’s like throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Next, let’s talk about systems.
So, everything in your business needs to be systemized from your nutrition program design, your assessment process, your weekly checking in progress etc.
All of these things so all of it should be systemized.
So that we are minimising your time invested in a negative way, you’re not just trying to you put out programs as fast as possible, you’re actually trying to streamline your own process of designing these programs, so that you can deliver packages.
One of the keys to minimising your time as an online trainer is making sure that all your clients are essentially the same avatar.
This, therefore, means that all your clients are going to have very similar goals.
This means the creation of your coaching should take you a lot less time because there should be a lot of overlap between your coaching plans.
A big mistake I see coaches making is they are essentially working with too many different types of clients. This, therefore, means that they are having to change so many parts of their plans when working with clients.
Therefore, they are essentially taking far too long when creating plans etc.
Number one, you’re probably not defining your market enough because most clients who come on board should be very similar.
You don’t have a well run business if you don’t have these systems and templates in place to create clients your plans.
A good question to ask yourself is this…
Can you actually walk away from your business today and is it still going to produce you an income?
Because if you can’t walk away without your income dropping, then you’re not really a business owner you’re, you’re a job owner at the end of the day.
This is what you must transition away from.
If you want to transition to Entrepreneur and business owner, you need to be able to have the systems in place.
This means taking a bird’s eye view of your business and seeing what you can systemise to save you time.
The next thing I want to focus on is your pricing structure.
So, defining what services you’re going to provide using that ultimate income goal that we talked about before.
So, looking for example, another inner circle member, David.
He wanted 4 different income streams.
He wanted to do a low-end membership site that is actually going to be $5 a month to people who join.
He also wants a high ticket online coaching service which would sell for $3,000.
There’s too much of a discrepancy between $3,000 a month for a one on one online coaching and the $5 per month membership.
Maybe later down the road you can do something like that but certainly not in the beginning.
If you’re targeting high-end people, only offer high-end packages, even your low end offer still needs to be more expensive than a typical low-end offer because of the type of people you are targeting.
So, this leads into the next area of actually building your business.
So, the first level of building your businesses is knowing exactly what to do.
That’s creating your tier system which is what your business actually looks like in terms of the products and services you are offering…
Have you got a free lead magnet to build your list and help people in advance?
A low barrier to entry low hanging fruit they call it…
So, people can easily grab something of yours and get onto your email list so you can build a relationship and then sell your services.
And really what we do at the now top of the pyramid and the free stuff is to make sure you are giving tons of value and providing people with results in advance.
Now, let’s get to the paid stuff.
You want to be putting together what I like to call your Rolls Royce program.
If a client walks in and says…
“I want these results as quickly as possible”
What would be your top of the range service?
$1,000 a month for a client to come on board is easily doable for a top of the range custom coaching service.
Next, you can consider a mid and lower range service. However, I typically suggest that most people should start with a high ticket service.
Let’s next talk about Facebook ads.
The biggest issue I see with Facebook ads is people are trying to use them before they are even needed.
In short, you don’t even need Facebook ads in the beginning.
In fact, let me share with you an example from one of our students, Tyler.
Tyler is charging $1,000 a month for coaching clients.
Here is what he is doing.
Tyler is very simply just posting content on Facebook and then pushing people from this content into his free Facebook group.
Once people are in the group, he then engages with those people…
He’s providing a ton of free value and content and most importantly he is providing content that gets people results in advance.
This is a very important piece of the puzzle.
He simply then pushes these people within the free group onto a phone call and then turns these people into high paying clients.
Pretty simple, eh?
And, this is all done without Facebook ads or complicated funnels.
Yes, ads and more complex funnels have their place as your business continues to grow.
However, they are certainly not necessary in the beginning.
In fact, this is where I see a ton of coaches just spinning their wheels and not creating any traction.
You can easily swipe this simple funnel and apply it today to get high paying clients.
In short, you are creating engaging content on your Facebook business page, you have a call to action on all your posts pushing people into a free group.
You then continue to engage and provide value and get people to know like and trust you.
Next, a percentage of these people will book a call with you.
And, a percentage of people will sign up as a high paying client.
This is just one option you can use.
By the way, there are multiple options we use for our students depending on their goals and specific circumstances.
Do you know the enemy is it building a Facebook group is just like building an email list.
It works just as well (if not better).
Once again, you don’t need to be focusing on all the complex marketing strategies and funnels to begin with.
In fact, you don’t need to put up a single Facebook ad or having a website at all out there, to launch your first program within the first 30 days and add that first you know $6,000 to your bottom line.
Otherwise he literally just pissing away money.
Once you have a simple funnel in place like the above, you can then start adding in Facebook ads and more complex funnels to scale the business.
How do you truly turn your fitness business into a business where you’re earning the money that you want, living the lifestyle and having the freedom that you want and impacting the people that you want as well?
As I have already mentioned before in this article, what you need to be focusing on in your business is creating as many different systems as possible.
This is going to make the business easier to scale.
But also, it is going to give you more free time so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor, rather than being stuck working all the time.
So, structuring your weekend in an intelligent manner is extremely important and what I’ve found is what’s worked best for me and my students over the years is this…
Everything in your week should be pre-planned and scripted.
What’s more, every activity should be moving you towards a particular outcome.
The problem I see with so many fitness professionals and especially with their marketing is that they use a lot of random approaches.
How are you allocating your time to the different areas that you need to focus on?
Another area that can be systemised is your nutrition and training program creation.
Again, going back to what I said earlier about only working with a specific avatar means that all your clients should have very similar goals.
This means you should be able to create templates for all your processes and then just tweak these slightly for each individual client’s needs.
So, at the very beginning, it’s important to create that structure.
The biggest mistake that I see coaches making when it comes to productivity is they are just randomly posting on social media and using a shot gun approach to their marketing.
Also, their processes are not systemised at all.
Maybe they’re trying to put this stuff together in between their face to face clients.
You need to be able to have a structure, you need to treat this as a REAL business.
Make sure every single week, day and hour is planned out in advanced.
Hopefully, you have enjoyed this article.
