One of the most important parts of any fitness business is your ability to consistently bring in new leads every single week.

Let’s be honest, fitness clients are not going to be with us forever…

Some clients are going to move on at various stages.

With that being the case, it is critical that you focus on building a system that brings in new leads every single week, so that we can convert a percentage of them into new paying clients.

Notice I use the word system 😉.

You may have noticed that I use that a lot within my content.

The reason is that “systems” breed predictability…

And, let me tell you, there is NOTHING in your business that you want to be more predictable than your lead generation system.

You see, without a predictable system for bringing in new leads and turning them into clients, you do not have a real business.

The truth hurts.

I should know because for far too long I didn’t have a proper system in my business.

However, let me know you, there is not a better feeling than going to bed every single night knowing that you have a predictable system for bringing in new leads into your business.

You see, if you have ever felt stressed, anxious, or scared about where your next client is coming from…then this may be the most important post you will ever read.

Before, we get into this…

I want to share some results upfront of just how powerful this stuff is to bring on new leads super cheap.

First, we will discuss a paid method and then we will discuss some free methods afterwards…

We just had a call with a big group of personal trainers this week and I want to share some of the results from one of my students. 

Alexis went from $76 per lead following the old method to now down to $4 per lead.

I’m going to show you right now the steps that make up the hundred lead method.

I will be completely honest with you, when I started selling online fitness programs, I just absolutely sucked at getting high quality leads.

There are two things you need to focus to get high quality leads…

1-Build an audience of people who know, like, and trust you.

2- The 2nd piece of the puzzle is a conversion mechanism to turn them from somebody who knows who you are, to then getting them effectively raise their hand by filling in an application form and applying for what you have to offer.

 

So, the first section we need to understand is actually how do we get the message in front of the right people who are ideal target avatar.

Facebook lead forms are working incredibly well right now. 

Now, this does work with Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other methods, but just for now to make it easy I’m going to be really specific for Facebook.

Let’s first of all start with the ad.

The biggest mistake I see most fitness professionals make is that their ads absolutely suck!!

The messaging is all wrong and it is not compelling enough to their target market.

As you know, the fitness industry has a lot of competition. 

So, we must have a compelling message that is unique to bring these people into our world.

The next mistake most fitness professionals make is that they are putting their offer in front of the wrong people.

This means that even if you had the best offer in the world, it’s not going to convert if it is in front of the wrong people.

So, the audience and their messaging are incorrect. 

Once we have our messaging and audience set-up correctly, we can then set-up what is called the appointment funnel.

The appointment funnel is made up of three critical steps right now. 

Number one, you need to get the person to apply, so you know that they are a good fit for you to help them.

The last thing that you want is a bunch of sales conversations with people that are just tire kickers or energy vampires who are not willing to pay what it is that you’re actually selling.

That would be a complete waste of your time. 

So, the second step is where they book in a time to speak to you. 

Finally, there is one final step that most fitness businesses just completely miss.

This is a thank you page.

Which is where the prospect goes after they have booked in a slot to speak to you on the phone. 

The reason why this step is so critical is this is where you will essentially be warming the prospect up before you speak to them on the phone. 

You need to make sure that you’re actually getting them primed ready to rock and roll, so that when they actually get on to the conversation with you…

They’re not saying…

“I’m not sure if I can afford this”

“Let me think about this and get back to you”

“I need to check my finances and speak to my spouse first”

Instead, they are going to be PUMPED to join your program because of what is included on the thank you page.

The final phase on the hundred lead method is what we call the high conversion, high ticket closing sale.

This method is getting our members to close 70-80% of the sales calls they take.

Once again, we need all these steps in place to have this lead generation machine working like clockwork.

1-Messaging. The copy of your ads needs to be compelling for your target audience to get them to take the next step.

2-Audience. You need to make sure you are targeting the right audience with your ad.

3-We need to have our application page set-up correctly so that it is high converting.

4-Thank you page. This needs to be in place after the application page to warm our prospects up and get them excited to join the program.

5-Sales call. Use a proven method and system that converts 70-80% of prospects into clients.

 

So, if you don’t have all these systems in place, then you are not going to be able to make this work.

You need all the pieces of the puzzle in place 😊.

Next, now you know the simple system to use to generate leads like clockwork with paid ads, I want to share with you some free organic methods, too.

The paid option is truly what you should be striving for, as this makes your business more predictable and scalable.

However, I totally get it…if you can’t afford to be spending money on ads right away.

Therefore, here are some free methods to get you out the gates and rock n rolling…

 

Organic Content

Now, let’s talk about free methods.

The biggest free method you can use to get more qualified leads and therefore more paying clients is to simply produce social media content.

All platforms WORK, the key is figuring out what suits your style and preferences and then the key is simply creating content that will ATTRACT your ideal clients and REPEL the types of people that won’t be a good fit for you.

Some of the most popular platforms and types of content are: Facebook posts, Instagram, LinkedIn, videos for YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Finally, you can do blogs and podcasts…

Again, all of these will work as long as YOUR MESSAGING FITS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE.

Now, when it comes to creating content, there are 3 things you want to focus on…

Think of it like an upside-down triangle with two lines through it. 

So, we’ve got three different sections at the top of the funnel.

What we need to be able to do is we simply need to be able to get people that don’t know you to know you.

You need to be able to create content that’s very specific for your ideal client.

This is simply showing them that you can solve their problems. 

 

Let me give you an example…

Let’s say you’re a personal trainer that helps women over 40 lose fat and tone up. 

Now what you can do is you’re going to create content for women over 40 who want to lose fat and tone up. 

Now, do you think a male powerlifter would pay attention to this content?

No, of course not!

However, that’s perfect!

You want to create content that’s magnetic towards the right people and repulsive towards the wrong people.

You know what your ideal client wants and you know their pain points as well. 

And you know what it is that they’re looking for so you can start to solve their problems, that’s when you can create the bottom of the funnel and the conversion event. 

And this is where I say that you can start selling high ticket coaching. memberships for online programs, you can start selling diets trainings, even gym memberships etc. 

And that’s why when you start putting together this content, you’re going to be able to grow your following for free because the content you are putting out is attracting the right type of people to you. 

 

Joint ventures

The next lead source available to you is joint ventures.

Think of other businesses you could partner up with and refer business to each other.

Create a win-win relationship for both.

Think of the types of businesses that your clients will also be using.

Beauty salons, physios, sports therapists, smoothie shops, and you could find all these sources online, too.

The key to think about is this is another EASY source of leads for you.

The other great thing about joint ventures is that they are almost as good as referrals in the sense that the business owner would have already built a relationship with their customers.

Therefore, there is already trust built into the relationship.

That means when they are referred to you, it will be easier for you to sign them up to your program because they are a warmer lead.

Again, joint ventures are fantastic and another tool to be added to your lead generation methods.

As I will discuss in a bit more detail further down, the more lead sources the better, because this adds more stability to your business.

It also means you are not overly reliant on one lead source if that lead source gets cut off for whatever reason.

Diversity breeds stability 😉.

 

Referrals

The final free method that you should be focusing on to generate leads is referrals from your existing client base.

Now, there is a couple of big mistakes that fitness businesses make when they are trying to get referrals.

The first is that they do not set the tone immediately for when the client first signs on to be sending you referrals if they are getting great results.

You need to set this up from the beginning. It should be expected that a client refers you new business if they are getting great results.

That is the tone you should set from the beginning.

The second big mistake I see fitness businesses making is that they do not give their clients big enough incentives to refer them clients.

Let’s get real here.

We all need incentives and an extra push to do something.

Make sure you are giving incentives to your clients to refer clients to you like gifts/money off etc.

Now, you have seen the different methods available to you for generating leads.

You should be focused on all of them.

Yes, paid ads offer the best predictability for consistently generating leads into your business.

That said, all of them work, so you should use all of them.

A little bit like in the gym, we all know that squats is one of the best exercises to develop the legs.

However, that doesn’t mean that lunges, step-ups, leg extensions, hamstring curls, leg press, etc. don’t have their place.

They all have merit, just like these lead generation methods.

So, use all of them.

The other thing to think about is diversity builds stability.

I remember hearing marketing and business guru Dan Kennedy once said that the worst number in business is one.

That goes for everything…

One lead source, revenue source, client, traffic source…

This means don’t put all your eggs in one basket basically.

Having all of these working simultaneously is going to give you the most stability.

What is more stable?

A chair with 1 or 2 legs, or a chair with 4 legs?

Of course, it’s 4.

Use as many different leads sources as possible.
